This Little Blog is on Hiatus, and So Am I

This little blog will be on hiatus for a few weeks, although I hope to squeeze in Part 3 of “Hot Water in China? Don’t Get Burned”- hopefully none of my readers will get arrested in China between now and then. I leave you with a few favorites and recommendations:

My Favorite China Blogs:
ChinaBizGov, written by Greg Anderson, is an absolute treasure trove for China geeks like me. If you’re interested in the relationship between China’s local and central government, analysis of their automotive industry, and insight on corporate governance, this blog rocks.

China Solved for practical business advice with a heavy dose of wit and wisdom. Andrew Hupert also happens to be an incredible writer, which makes it all the more worthwhile.

China Law Blog for all legal China matters. If you do happen to find yourself in hot water of any type, Dan Harris is your man.

Experience Not Logic is a fun blog to check out- I never know what Will Lewis is going to cover next. Witty and to the point.

Off the Record, written by Alistair Nicholas, Founder and Managing Director of AC Capital, is a one-stop shop for public relations, current events, and all matters of security in China. The writing is superb as well.

CNReviews is fairly new on my radar and I’m really digging it so far. Elliott Ng does a great job of keeping the material current, relevant and interesting.

My Favorite Non-China Blogs:
If you’ve been reading this little blog for a while now, you know that I’m a huge fan of epidemiologist Elizabeth Pisani, who is kinda sorta like a mentor from afar. Her blog on sex, science, and all matters in between is better than awesome.

I don’t need to tell you about How To Change the World- hopefully, you already know.

Nouriel Roubini, my favorite doomsday economist, has this crazy thing called RGE Monitor. I begged him for a job once, but he didn’t hire me. He did, however, send me a nice little email, which was much appreciated.

David Friedman is another economist who happens to write about really strange matters, like World of Warcraft and statistical lies and auto accidents+AIDS+Contraception+The Pope. I’m hooked.

Insite Law Magazine for a heavy lose of reality and a hearty laugh, simultaneously. @charonQC also happens to be a most entertaining tweeter, by the way. Who knew that lawyers had a sense of humor?

My Favorite China Books (Lately):
China Underground by Zachary Mexico
Factory Girls: From Village to City in a Changing China by Leslie T. Chang
China Entrepreneur by Juan Antonio Fernandez and Laurie Underwood
Apologies Forthcoming by Xujun Eberlein
Out of Mao’s Shadow: The Struggle for the Soul of a New China by Philip P. Pan (Pre-Ordered- haven’t read yet, but sounds thrilling)

My Favorite Non-China Books (Lately):
Off the Books: The Underground Economy of the Urban Poor by Sudhir Alladi Venkatesh
The Wisdom of Whores by Elizabeth Pisani
The Boat by Nam Le
King Leopold’s Ghost by Adam Hochschild
We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed With Our Families by Philip Gourevitch

My Favorite Random Articles (Lately):
Directory of 61+ Women English-language China Bloggers on CNReviews
The Coming Structural Realignment of China’s Automotive Sector by Bill Russo
A Dream Deferred by Alexis Schaitkin in NYT Modern Love
Chinese Parents Confronted With Corruption that Affects Even State Agencies in CDT
On de-mo-ke-la-xi and sai-yin-si in China in Shanghai Daily

A Shameless Plug:
Check out my podcast with Insite Law. First one, so be gentle please.

再见 for now! I’m off to gorge myself on french fries with mayo, wheels of cheese and beer.
