Sometimes an Image Just Says it All…

February 26th, 2010

I’ve been fixated on this wheat paste stencil from Beijing’s Xinjiekou Nandajie, originally posted at NeochaEDGE (artist as of yet unknown) which to me captured recent sentiments on a shifting US-China relationship rather perfectly…. without all the punditry. What do you think?

Be sure to jump over to the excellent bilingual website, edge.neocha.com for more. And, if you’ve seen an American take on US-China relations in art, please tip me off in the comments section.

What Makes China Uniquely Cool? Can China’s “Coolness Factor” Be Exported?

May 27th, 2009

My interview with Jenny Bai has inspired a very timely question: “What makes China uniquely cool?” China is well known for its counterfeits, but in culture, art, fashion and design, what can China call “their own?” I’m passing this question on to my readers for a collaborative post. Email me your thoughts, photos, and links and I’ll credit your contributions on the site. Please pass this on- all ideas are welcome!
